Why a Personal Approach Matters in Family Law
At Waely Law, we believe there is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” approach to legal representation. Every client brings their own story, their own challenges, and their own way of processing the world. Our role is not just to represent them in court, but to make sure they feel understood, supported, and respected throughout the process.
One of my current clients is a vulnerable individual in a same-sex relationship who has a complex neurodivergent profile, including autism, ASD, ADHD, haemochromatosis, dyslexia, anxiety, and hearing impairment. His legal matters are far from simple; he is pursuing both a Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (TOLATA) claim and Non-Molestation/Occupation Order (NMO/OO) proceedings.
He was unlawfully excluded from a jointly owned property when his partner changed the locks and installed a deadbolt operated by remote control. Despite repeated attempts, he could not gain access. At the time, his partner was living abroad, and the police refused to assist while an ongoing investigation was underway.
From the outset, I knew this case would require more than legal knowledge, it would require adapting my communication style to meet my client’s specific needs. Neurodivergent clients often face additional challenges in understanding complex legal processes, processing large amounts of information, and navigating the stress of court proceedings.
In his case, I tailored my approach so that everything was explained clearly, without overwhelming detail, and in a way that respected his pace and needs. I agreed to assist him at hearings for certain aspects; such as requesting alternative breaks and ensuring he fully understood each step, even though he had separate counsel representing him.
This level of personal involvement helped safeguard his interests and gave him the reassurance that someone was there to bridge the gap between the legal system and his lived experience.
He later told me that he had finally found a solicitor who knew how to work with autistic people. That meant more to me than any case outcome. Since then, he has referred several autistic clients to Waely Law, trusting that they will receive the same understanding and dedication.
This experience reinforces something I have always believed: family law is not just about legal documents and courtroom arguments. It is about people, real people, with real fears, hopes, and challenges.
At Waely Law, our commitment is to treat every client as an individual, adapting our communication and representation to ensure they feel heard, understood, and supported every step of the way.
If you need a solicitor who will take the time to understand your circumstances and work with you in a way that makes sense for you, we are here to help.
